Microsoft made a massive motility past acquiring Activision Blizzard for $70 billion, only it's not the just big name in games brokering deals. Sony has answered by scooping upward Bungie, the studio that originally brought us Halo and currently focuses on Destiny 2.
As reported by GI.biz, this is a $three.vi billion purchase for Sony. That's considerably less than what Microsoft is paying for its own deal, but keep in mind that this is a single studio versus a conglomerate. It's a large go regardless — Destiny ii is massive, and it will only continue to abound with The Witch Queen expansion coming in a few weeks.
Bungie CEO Pete Parsons expressed excitement over the acquisition equally well. In a blog mail, Parsons said the studio has "institute a partner who unconditionally supports u.s.a. in all nosotros are and who wants to accelerate our vision to create generation-spanning entertainment, all while preserving the artistic independence that beats in Bungie's eye." That independence is key — Bungie will "proceed to independently publish and creatively develop games," with Sony serving as the accelerator "in hiring talent beyond the entire studio to back up [Bungie's] ambitious vision."
Understandably, this acquisition raises the question of whether Destiny will become a PlayStation exclusive or not. The phrasing of "remaining independent," stated past Bungie and echoed past Sony's own Jim Ryan in another web log postal service, would seem to answer that question: Destiny 2 volition continue to exist a multiplatform game.
